Parque Nacional Naciones Unidas

Parque Nacional Naciones Unidas, located on the outskirts of Guatemala City, is one of the few green areas in the metropolis that offer spaces for recreation and environmental education. In addition, thanks to its location, it has spectacular views of Lake Amatitlán and the Agua and Pacaya volcanoes.

In 1955, this protected area was one of the first to be declared a “National Park” and, under the administration of Fundación Defensores de la Naturaleza since 1997, it has become one of the most visited parks in the country and has been able to restore the biological diversity it contains. Monitoring in the park has confirmed the presence of at least 115 tree species and 165 species of fauna.

The restoration of the forest landscape of the Parque Nacional Naciones Unidas Park has been essential not only to maintain the habitat of local species, reduce the pressure on ecosystem services and improve carbon sequestration, but also to protect the forest, which is in a strategic area of the Lake Amatitlán basin.

This is the perfect destination for family recreation; in addition to offering recreational services such as bike rides and horseback riding, the park offers themed areas with replicas of Tikal, Zaculeu, Plaza Palin and Antigua Guatemala that show the multiculturalism of the country. Also, for organized groups such as educational centers and companies, the park has special programs and areas that allow them to live together and learn from nature.
